How far can we go? Humans and androids

Roberto Cingolani, Italian Institute of Technology, Genoa

As part of the talk “Translating Evolution into Technology”, Roberto Cingolani, Scientific Director of the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Genoa from 2005 to 2019, discusses the developments in bio-inspired robotics, from biochemical robots at the nanoscale to androids, including drug delivery systems, plantoids, and animaloids.
Neurons versus transistors, electrons versus ions, and adaptations versus interconnections: androids increasingly resemble human beings, but scientists still cannot compete with the brain’s structure.
